Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja SM VSM & Bar assumed the appointment of DGMS (Air) wef 10 Feb 25. An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College Pune, was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 30 December 1986. The Air Officer did his Post Graduation in Internal Medicine from Delhi University in 1997, DM Gastroenterology from AIIMS Delhi in 2005 and M Phil in Defence Strategic Studies in 2018 from National Defence College.

After initial 4 years as RMO with 9 Rajput in HAA/CI Ops in three Command zones, he worked as a medical specialist at MH Jodhpur, UN Mission Sierra Leone and MH Ranikhet. Thereafter, as a Gastroenterologist in different super specialty centers of the Armed Forces. He has been the Head of Dept Gastroenterology Base Hospital Delhi Cantt, Command Hospital Western Command and Army Hospital (R & R), New Delhi. He has commanded a Military Hospital at Pathankot, Command Hospital at Lucknow and Director and Commandant at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College Pune prior to his present appointment.

He has held various administrative appointments like Senior Consultant Medicine at office of DGAFMS and Brig IC Adm and Cdr Tps at BHDC and is the Commodore Commandant of Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM).

In recognition of his meritorious service of exceptional order the Air Officer has been awarded with Sena Medal in 2022, Vishisht Seva Medal in 2011 and Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal in 2024.
